Meet our team
The people behind Simply Soso Design
Ojay
Director – Production & Design
Meet the creative force and the “O” in Soso — shaping our designs with a strong focus on wood and a growing interest in reclaimed materials.
“I never planned to work with wood — my background is in music, and there’s still always music playing in the workshop.
What started with a simple piece of leftover wood quickly grew into a passion for creating functional objects. Today, I mainly work with locally sourced wood, while always looking for ways to incorporate reclaimed materials and give them a new purpose.
Each piece is different, and that’s what keeps the process interesting.”
Sandra
Director – Operations & Design
Meet the “S” in Soso — bringing together design, upcycling, and the everyday running of the business.
“I’ve always been drawn to homeware, design, and the idea of creating something both functional and meaningful. I enjoy working with textiles and exploring how pre-loved materials can be turned into practical, beautiful pieces.
With a background in administration and marketing, I support the business across design development, communication, and daily operations. Running a small business means constantly learning, adapting, and finding new ways to grow — which is exactly what keeps it interesting.”
Hassan
Workshop Supervisor - Wood Production
Meet Hassan, our production lead, overseeing woodwork in the workshop and ensuring ideas are turned into well-crafted pieces.
“I’ve been part of Simply Soso almost from the beginning, growing with the workshop over the years. I learned carpentry locally in Kilifi and have developed my skills through hands-on experience.
I enjoy the process of turning designs into real products and finding solutions along the way. Every piece brings a new challenge, and there is always something new to learn.”
Rehema
Textile Production & Workshop Assistant
Meet Rehema, bringing skill and care to our textile work while supporting the workshop across different tasks.
“I’ve always enjoyed working with fabric and turning it into something useful and beautiful. Over time, I’ve developed my skills through hands-on experience and enjoy the process of creating each piece.
At Simply Soso, I mainly focus on sewing, while also assisting with other work in the workshop, such as painting when needed. I enjoy learning new skills and being part of the full production process.”
Dickson
Workshop Assistant – Wood Production
Meet Dickson, supporting our workshop with a hands-on approach and a strong willingness to learn.
“Although I am not formally trained in carpentry, I have developed my skills through daily work in the workshop. I enjoy learning new tasks and improving step by step.
Being part of the team has given me the opportunity to grow, take on new responsibilities, and contribute to the production process.”
