Our Story

We started Simply Soso Design in Kilifi in 2017, turning our shared passion for design, craftsmanship, and sustainability into a small business creating handcrafted homeware and furniture in Kenya.

The name Soso combines the first letters of our names, Sandra and Ojay, but it also reflects the spirit of our brand: simple ideas, thoughtful design, and products made to be used and loved every day.

Inspired by life on the Kenyan coast, we design functional and sustainable homeware using locally available and reclaimed materials. While much of our work is crafted from locally sourced mango wood, we also make a conscious effort to incorporate upcycled materials whenever possible. Offcuts of wood, pre-loved textiles, and materials that might otherwise be discarded are transformed into practical household accessories, unique furniture pieces, and everyday solutions for living spaces.

All our products are handmade in Kilifi by local artisans, combining traditional skills with contemporary design. By producing locally and sourcing materials from within our community whenever possible, we support local livelihoods while reducing waste and environmental impact.

Our pieces can be found in homes, lodges, and hospitality spaces across Kenya. Whether it is a small kitchen accessory or a custom-made furniture piece, our goal is always the same: simple, functional design that lasts.
